Serbia's roads "less deadly" this year
BELGRADE -- 798 people died in traffic accidents in Serbia in 2009 – 99 less than in the previous year.
According to Serbian police (MUP) data, 897 people died in car accidents in Serbia in 2008, not including Kosovo, while the number of deaths was 968 in 2007.
About 21,500 people were injured in traffic accidents in 2009, which is also less than the previous year, when the number stood at 22,275.
There were about 64,800 car accidents in 2009, or 4.2 percent less compared to 67,708 the year before.
The number of accidents has been reduced by 8.35 percent in the past two years, while the number of fatalities dropped by 17.5 percent, MUP said.
