How Serbs thinks about German

1. The Germans object to any thing that disrupts their carefully laid plans and their schedules. The most spontaneous events must be planned well in advance.

2. It is better not to talk about religion/children/German history

3. The Germans worry (Angst) about every thing from growing toenails to dying woods. They worry about politics and the weather. They worry about economy and their health. I personally think this is one of the reasons why the Germans try to insure almost every thing. You will find more than one file dealing with insurance matters even in German private household.

4. Germans are very sensitive to any negative vibes emanating from beyond their borders.

5. Quality is an essential part of German character

6. German cosiness tends to be rather tidy and geometrical, with the cushions lined up in military order along the couch and even the plants standing to attention.

7. Germans are not very happy at parting with anything they own not even for shorter period. It is better not to lend or borrow any thing

8. Germans are broad-minded folks in general.

9. Every thing should be absolutely quite during 13-15 hours known as "Mittagsruhe" and for Sundays and evenings after 20:30 hours. Doors are kept closed but the windows are constantly opened and shut. Throwing-away- bottle hours must be strictly observed

10. There are very few German women whom you find in top management of a German company. German women get less salary compared to their male colleague.

11. It is quite common to have written contract for almost every thing: Renting apartment, Insurance, work contract and many others. Germany is a country of rules and regulations. Your have to register yourself for your address change at "Einwohnermeldeamt" within a week after arrival. (Not for tourists)

12. Heaven (and the Germans) Forbid: In Germany what isn't specifically allowed (erlaubt) is often not so much not allowed as forbidden (verboten)- like walking on grass, playing in the stairwell.

13. Whenever you are invited to a German's home, it is an honour, which should be suitably acknowledged. A dinner at 7 means 7 and not early or late. You should bring a present- a bottle of wine, chocolates or flowers. Paper should be removed from flowers before giving it to the host/ess.

14. The Germans are very polite (not all) and have a lot of respect for courtesies and formalities-Germans go for titles. If somebody is a doctor or professor, you should address him or her as Herr (or Frau) Professor and add the family name.

15. Most managers tend to be around quite a bit, and may work late into the evening. However, their physical presence on the premises does not necessarily make them accessible to anybody but their personal secretary. This particular secretary's job is first and foremost to prevent her boss from being disturbed, and most such secretaries are very good at this.

Keep your appointment and no last minute cancellation or postponement Dress formally unless in the industry.
Arrive punctually (early is even better).
Do not address your host by his first name.
Do not ask for office equipment for your own purpose.
Never overstay your welcome; leave promptly when your host looks at his/her watch.
It is rare for a German to mix business and private life, so don't expect to be invited to Meet wife and children. If you are, it is an honour you should recognise with a small gift and due thanks.

16. Germany is a country of rules and regulations. There is very little that is not in some way ruled and regulated, and this can make life tedious at times.

17. In Germany, what isn't specifically allowed (erlaubt) is often not so much allowed as forbidden (verboten)

I was there I went to the CeBIT. But I couldn’t see or feel the spirit of tomorrow.
I saw people hunting simple paper bags and other stuff. They become mad to become one of these colourful good for nothing.

What else? I don’t know! Do you know?

I went there with my 6-month-old daughter. We used the public buses, this dirty orange one, which is always overloaded. But you can’t imagine how nice and friendly are the people in the buses when they see a child. People offered us immediately a seat. That is what I don’t know from Berlin. Shame on you, people from Berlin. Nobody ever offers a seat.

People from Beograd you are nice and very friendly. Keep it up!!

I don’t like Beograd in winter without snow; it looks so grey and dirty. But Beograd was all the time snowy so it was very nice.

When you move to Beograd then don’t forget:

Foreigners must announce themselves in Serbia and/or Montenegro within 24 hours at the place of the stay with the police. Offences against the obligation to register are possibly strictly punished. With accommodation in a hotel the registration is taken over by this.

I got a lot of trouble because I didn’t.

JAT: restructure or bankruptcy

BELGRADE -- Wednesday – Serbia’s national airline, JAT Airways, is closer to restructuring than bankruptcy, Labour Minister Slobodan Lalovic said today.

However, Lalovic told company employees today, the anarchy in the company must come to an end before progress can be made.

Speaking at a meeting with JAT staff, the minister said that the anarchy ruling the company is more responsible for threats of bankruptcy rather than economic reasons. If agreement can be reached by Thursday morning on bringing the anarchy in the company to an end, the threat of bankruptcy could be averted, he said.

Please JAT waits till we went to Beograd and back to Berlin. ;-)

…the anarchy ruling the company is more responsible for threats of bankruptcy rather than economic reasons. I don’t think so. No one will pay 300 € for a flight from Berlin to Beograd and back. Even you can go with easyjet for 100 €.

Life lie Hitler Youth. From the diary of a BDM girl

Lebenslüge Hitler-Jugend. Aus dem Tagebuch eines BDM- Mädchens. The life history is from the early childhood 1933 till the adult age in the post-war period. The time of the National Socialism and the time in the BDM (Hitler Youth) take a very small portion of the representation. When you call you book “Life lie Hitler Youth” you accept more. The title suggested that the time would be with the BDM the main topic. Instead you read how was her life before and after war.
The positive attitude to the BDM, to Hitler and to war is obviously. Reflections of the authoress are however very generally and superficially held. Till the end of war she doesn’t realised what Hitler done with German people and the world. Just 40 years after war she recognised that she and their generation was used by national socialism. She was so affected by National Socialism propaganda and so much occupied to survived, that she couldn't think critical about her life.
Result:
This book informs you about the post-war time, how difficult to struggle through and to survive after war. But it isn’t a good book to read about National Socialism and how people thought concerning it.
